Ramapo Dog Search and Rescue Training

This past Saturday, October 5th, we had the pleasure of joining the Ramapo Search and Rescue team for a fantastic day of training at beautiful Lake Tiorati. It was an incredible experience working alongside such a dedicated group of handlers and their amazing dogs.
The morning started off right—with coffee, donuts, and plenty of excited tails! About eight search and rescue dogs and their owners were ready to get to work. Some of the dogs were seasoned pros, while others were just beginning their journey in training.
Once everyone was briefed, the boats headed out, and our divers, Michelle and Matt, geared up to support the exercises. The teams split up for the morning—one group practiced locating Matt underwater or greeting Michelle on shore, while the other focused on marking “HR” (human remains) scent targets. Each dog had the chance to experience both shore and boat scenarios, putting their skills to the test.
After a well-earned lunch break around 1:30 p.m., the teams swapped roles so that every dog could get valuable time working from the boats with our divers.
It was a rewarding day filled with teamwork, training, and a shared commitment to supporting the incredible work these dogs and their handlers do. We’re always proud to be part of such meaningful partnerships in our local community! Big thanks to our staff , Kelly, Michele and Mike!
